Developers and father-son team Bob and Vince Patel, of Shree Madhav LLC, invited Zachary’s city and school leaders to a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday to help them celebrate the start of construction on their newest hotel, a Comfort Inn & Suites.

The three-story hotel broke ground on the lot between CVS and Zachary Youth Park on Mount Pleasant Road near La. 964.

Vince Patel said the hotel will feature about 70 suites, a fitness center, swimming pool and a conference room for up to 50 people and will feature conference calling, a projector screen, audio and Wi-Fi capability. Guests of the hotel will receive free breakfast.

“We are very excited to partner with Zachary, excited to build and ready to be part of something that will be good for the city and for us,” Vince Patel said.

The developers already have hotels in Gonzales, Plaquemine, Port Allen and St. Francisville.

Mayor David Amrhein said the hotel and its location will help accommodate the many out-of-town visitors who attend the nearly 60 tournaments and events held annually at the Youth Park.

With the new Comfort Inn, Zachary’s hotel count will be three. A Best Western Zachary Inn and Holiday Inn Express are located on La. 19.

“They could have chosen any community to build, but they chose Zachary for a reason, and we’re happy to have them and do business with them,” Amrhein said.

The hotel will be within walking distance to several restaurants, a shopping center, spa, three convenience stores, Zachary Youth Park and BREC’s Zachary Community Park, which features a dog park and pond for fishing.

Architect on the project is Tom Pistoris, builder is Billy Tucker, and St. Martin Bank and Trust is funding the loan on the new construction.

The widening of Mount Pleasant Road, which is underway and expected to end in December, will be completed in plenty of time for the grand opening of the hotel, which will hopefully be in April, Amrhein said.

Bob Patel said the general construction phases will start with ground work followed by the roof and parking lot, depending on the weather.
