A Baton Rouge man has been indicted in the Oct. 26 shooting death of a 19-year-old woman inside a car on Gus Young Avenue.

Donnie Spencer, 27, of 2100 College Drive, was charged Wednesday by an East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury with second-degree murder in the killing of Erneisha Barnes.

Spencer, according to police, fired the fatal shot that struck Barnes while she sat in the passenger seat of a car.

Barnes was not the target but was "in the wrong place at the wrong time," police have said.

The case has been assigned to state District Judge Lou Daniel.
