Baton Rouge police have arrested a Baton Rouge man suspected in the death of an Alabama man who was shot during an attempted robbery during an alleged drug transaction earlier this month.
Sirroy Young, 33, was shot multiple times on June 4 while struggling with two attackers, police spokesman Sgt. L'Jean McKneely Jr. said in a news release. Young died on June 7.
A witness told police that she and Young were going to sell narcotics to 33-year-old Sedrick Lewis, a man she had known for months, according to an arrest report for Lewis. The pair met up with Lewis, who climbed in to their vehicle, in the 900 block of North Donmoor Drive, a subdivision off Lobdell Boulevard, around 10:30 p.m.
After agreeing on a price, Lewis left the vehicle to get money, but returned with an unknown man, police said. Lewis and the other man attacked Young, who was shot multiple times in the torso area during the struggle, according to the report.
In East Baton Rouge Parish, 87 people were killed in 2018.
Police arrested Lewis, of 3523 Osceloa St., on Wednesday in the shooting death. He was booked in Parish Prison on counts of first-degree murder and armed robbery, McKneely said.
The victim was from Eight Mile, Alabama, according to police.
McKneely said the investigation is ongoing and asked that anyone with information about the incident call the Violent Crimes Unit at (225) 389-4869 or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.
