Man shot Monday night in Baton Rouge _lowres

Advocate staff photo by HILARY SCHEINUK -- Investigators look over at a pair of boxing gloves and bloody grocery bag that were found near where a male gunshot victim on Louisiana Street near Brice Street Monday night.

Baton Rouge police are investigating a shooting Monday night in the 1700 block of Louisiana Avenue, police spokesman Cpl. Don Coppola Jr. said.

The condition of the victim, who was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, is unknown.

Official details remained sketchy Monday night. In the street where the victim was shot sat two red boxing gloves and a plastic Wal-Mart bag in a pool of blood. Crime scene technicians placed the gloves and plastic bag into separate brown paper bags for evidence processing.

That part of Louisiana Avenue, between 17th and Brice streets, sits next to vacant lots.

Few neighbors were outside near the scene, and some of them said that area is normally quiet.

Homicide detectives were walking the area, talking to residents to see if anyone saw anything.
