A man was fatally shot Thursday on Elm Drive and another person was injured in an unrelated shooting on Airline Highway, marking a night of shootings in Baton Rouge.
On Wednesday night, three people were injured in two shootings on Byron Avenue.
On Thursday, shortly before 8:30 p.m., a man was fatally shot in the 5200 block of Winbourne Avenue near Howell Park, Baton Rouge police spokesman Sgt. Don Coppola Jr. confirmed.
He was identified Friday morning as 32-year-old Kelvin Brown Jr., of 863 Hammond Manor Drive. Brown was pronounced dead on scene.
A 19-year-old man also suffered gunshot injuries at that scene and was taken in a private vehicle to a local hospital for treatment.
A long stretch of Elm Drive was blocked off where the man was shot, and a sizeable crowd gathered at the busy intersection with Winbourne Avenue.
An East Baton Rouge Parish coroner's van waited behind various police units as investigators placed several evidence cones around a silver Nissan and marked at least 10 bullet holes in the car's windshield and hood.
Moments after Police Chief Murphy Paul arrived at the scene, three officers sped past with their lights flashing and sirens blaring.
Emergency Medical Services spokesman Nick McDonner confirmed that they transported one person injured in an unrelated shooting at 5439 Airline Highway.
