Authorities are investigating a crash Thursday night that left one person dead after he lost control of his motorcycle, said Baton Rouge police spokesman Sgt. Don Coppola Jr.

The accident occurred around 8:30 p.m. Thursday on the entrance ramp to I-12 westbound off Airline Highway, Coppola said Friday in a news release.

Marco Ferreira, 40, of 16732 Patton Ave. was entering the ramp when he lost control of his motorcycle, crossed over the grass median onto I-12 and struck the concrete barrier before colliding with another vehicle, which sustained only minor damage, Coppola said.

Ferreira was taken to a hospital, where he later died. The other driver did not appear injured.

Coppola said no charges are pending at this time.
