A 48-year-old man was found shot dead in the 7100 block of Scenic Highway late Tuesday morning. He was the fourth person to die in a fatal shooting in Baton Rouge this week.
Police cordoned off the parking lot of a used tire shop and car wash on the west side of Scenic between Airline Highway and Harding Boulevard. A large group of people who identified themselves as relatives of the victim gathered nearby, embracing, crying and comforting one another. They said the victim was in his late 40s.
He was identified by police as Stafford Williams.
East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore III arrived at the scene around 1 p.m., followed shortly by the coroner's van.
Earlier this week, a 34-year-old man was shot and killed Saturday evening on Gus Young Avenue, and two men, ages 40 and 26, were discovered shot to death in a car on Avenue E early Monday.
Editor's Note: An earlier version of this story reported a 34-year-old was shot and killed Sunday evening. The story has been updated to reflect the correct date of Saturday.
