A sexual encounter last week arranged via Backpage.com, a website known for ads selling sex, ended in a brutal stabbing that left a 26-year-old woman fighting for her life in a Baton Rouge hospital. On Wednesday afternoon, police arrested a teenager accused in the stabbing, while the woman remains hospitalized.

The stabbing, according to an arrest warrant, occurred just off Airline Highway the night of June 20 in north Baton Rouge following a disagreement between Darius Budgewater and the 26-year-old woman, an alleged pimp, about the price of recently completed sexual services.

A 22-year-old woman told investigators she met Budgewater, 18, in the 6000 block of Winchester Avenue after he contacted her about an advertisement posted on Backpage.com, the warrant says.

After meeting him, the 22-year-old woman engaged in a sexual act with Budgewater inside a vehicle, she told police.

It’s unclear whether the 26-year-old woman — acting as the other woman’s pimp — was inside the vehicle the whole time. But at some point after the act, she and Budgewater began to argue inside the vehicle about the price of the services. After they exited the vehicle, he attacked her, the warrant says.

Budgewater is accused of stabbing her six times in the back before fleeing the scene on foot.

The stabbing victim then got into the vehicle and drove to a nearby Circle K, where she contacted police. First responders soon arrived and took her to a hospital, where she “was rushed into surgery,” the warrant says.

The woman’s condition was unavailable Thursday evening, but she remains hospitalized, said Cpl. Don Coppola Jr., a Baton Rouge police spokesman.

Police booked Budgewater into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Wednesday on a count of attempted second-degree murder. His bail was set at $75,000, booking records show.

Detectives are unsure whether the women will face any criminal charges, Coppola said.
