Two teenagers were arrested early Saturday after they robbed a woman and minutes later tried to rob a man on Scenic Highway near Southern University, Baton Rouge Police reported.

Ofari Berry, 18, and Hinney Lewis, 17, approached a vehicle with its windows rolled down that was parked near The Palisades apartment complex at 7801 Scenic Highway around 2 a.m. Saturday, a police report on the incident says.

Berry stuck a gun through the vehicle’s window and told the woman sitting inside, who is a security guard, to “give me everything you got,” the report says.

The woman handed over her cellphone, and the teens ran away, the report says.

About a half hour later in the same block of Scenic Highway, Berry and Lewis went up to a man walking down a sidewalk and Berry displayed a gun, according to the report. The pair chased the man as he ran away. The man eventually “was able to jump a fence and lose the suspects,” the report says.

Berry ran into a patch of woods off Scenic Highway behind a Family Dollar store, where police apprehended him after bringing in a K-9 to search the area, said Sgt. Don Coppola Jr., a Baton Rouge police spokesman.

An officer noted in the report that Berry was wanted by Southern University police on an armed robbery warrant.

Berry, 8333 Green Moss Drive, was booked into Parish Prison on counts of armed robbery, attempted armed robbery, resisting an officer and fugitive from justice. He remains in jail in lieu of $145,000 bail.

Lewis, 4003 Laurel St., was booked into Parish Prison on counts of armed robbery and attempted armed robbery. He is being held in lieu of $65,000 bail.
