A 34-year-old Baton Rouge woman chased her boyfriend around their house, spraying him in the face with pepper spray, then shot him in the back as he tried to escape, deputies said.
Tonyetta Yvette Loveless confronted her 36-year-old boyfriend Sunday morning about text messages she found on his cellphone, an East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office report says.
As the couple quarreled, Loveless pulled out a can of pepper spray and blasted her boyfriend with it in the face, the report says. As the victim ran into another room to get away from her, Loveless chased after him, spraying him the whole time, according to the report.
As he ran from the home, the report says, Loveless pulled out a handgun and shot him once in the upper back.
The victim managed to run to the home of a neighbor, who drove him to the hospital, the report says.
Witnessing the incident, according to the report, was Loveless’ 13-year-old son, who also ran away from the home “in fear of his safety” as his mother shot the boyfriend.
By the time deputies arrived at the couple’s Libuse Drive home, neither the boyfriend nor Loveless was there.
Deputies obtained a warrant for Loveless’ arrest Sunday night but were unable to locate her.
She was arrested Wednesday afternoon and booked into Parish Prison on counts of attempted second-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, domestic abuse battery with child endangerment and felon in possession of a firearm. The report also notes she has seven outstanding bench warrants.
She remained in jail Thursday evening. Bail had not yet been set.
