GONZALES — The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said late Tuesday that it has three people in custody for their alleged roles in the death of a man found shot to death Tuesday in Gonzales.

The body of the man, shot several times, was found shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday in a ditch in a clearing between Vesta Trailer Park and Verna Street in Gonzales. 

No identification was found on the body of the middle-aged man, said Charlotte Smith, a public relations consultant for the Gonzales Police Department.

Smith said investigators determined the homicide did not occur in Gonzales, adding that the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office had taken over the investigation.

Lt. Jason Rivarde of the JPSO said that office had been working on a potential homicide case starting early Tuesday. Tuesday afternoon, investigators received a call from Gonzales police about remains that might be related to the Jefferson Parish case.

Rivarde said the investigation is ongoing. 

"Residents within Gonzales can rest assured that no murder took place in Gonzales today," Gonzales Police Chief Sherman Jackson said in a statement Tuesday evening.
