A man accused — but not charged — with killing two people last summer was slain Monday near his Cezanne Avenue home.

Alton Fields, 33, 6776 Cezanne Ave., Apt. C 121, was shot about 9 p.m. in the 6700 block of Cezanne Avenue, police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said.

Police found Fields lying in the road suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, McKneely said. Fields later died at a local hospital.

As of late Tuesday, no arrests had been made, no suspects had been named and a motive for the killing had not been determined.

On Oct. 26, almost nine months before Fields’ death, he was arrested in the Aug. 29 double homicide of a mother and a man who stopped for a visit at the woman’s 2080 N. Lobdell Blvd. apartment, authorities have said.

Nicole Badger, 37, and Roderick T. Guillory, 26, both died after they were ordered to lie on the floor, then shot in the head at close range, police said at the time of the shootings.

A third man and Badger’s two children were at the apartment at the time but were not injured, police have said.

The man, 26, was not identified.

The shootings occurred after Fields and another unidentified man went to Badger’s apartment to purchase marijuana, police have said.

A grand jury met in February and failed to indict Fields in the killings, East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore III said. As a result, Fields was released from prison on March 3.
