A Baton Rouge man tried to rob a Plank Road Jack in the Box through a drive-thru window early Sunday morning — and when he was unsuccessful, he looped his car back around and robbed a driver who was waiting in line, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Daniel West, 26, pulled up to the drive-thru of the restaurant at Plank Road and Kleinpeter Road at about 1:40 a.m. Sunday, and as he was being handed his food, he said, “Give me everything in the cash register,” according to a Sheriff’s Office report.

In response, the store manager closed the window and called police, deputies said.

But West drove back around to the drive-thru line, and armed with a large revolver, got out of his car and approached a customer in another car, pointed the gun at the man’s head and demanded valuables, the report says.

The manager could hear the robbery taking place through the headset he was wearing.

West grabbed the valuables and fled — but the manager recognized West as a frequent customer, and drove with deputies to locate him in a trailer park that sits just a few hundred feet from the restaurant, the report says. West told deputies he committed the robbery because his wife needed help paying their bills, according to the report.

West, of 5734 Kleinpeter Road, No. 49, Baton Rouge, was booked into Parish Prison Sunday on counts of attempted simple robbery and armed robbery.
