BR man, 21, arrested in bank robbery

Police arrested a 21-year-old man Tuesday in the armed robbery of a bank near the north gates of LSU.

Brendan N. Coughenour is accused of walking into the Capital One Bank branch at 3350 Highland Road about 2 p.m. wielding a gun and demanding money, police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said.

Evidence at the scene and video from surveillance cameras led to Coughenour’s arrest, McKneely said.

Coughenour, 4733 Y.A. Tittle Drive, Apt. No. 3, was booked into Parish Prison on one count each of armed robbery, possession of Schedule II drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, and obstruction of justice.

Man held in beating, shooting of another

A 26-year-old man was arrested Tuesday, accused of beating and shooting a man after breaking into the home of the victim’s friend, an arrest warrant says.

Robert K. Knox broke into the home at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and started beating the victim in the face with a gun, the warrant says. Knox then shot the victim in the hand, the warrant says.

Knox, 1830 Louisiana Ave., was booked into Parish Prison on one count each of attempted second-degree murder, aggravated burglary, illegal use of a weapon and unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling.

Baker man booked with murder attempt

An 18-year-old Baker man was arrested Tuesday in the shooting of a man on Uncas Street, an arrest warrant says.

Tyre Jackson fired several shots into a vehicle traveling on Uncas toward Weller Avenue at 8:40 p.m. June 4, the warrant says.

One of those shots hit a man in the back.

The victim told police that Jackson wanted him dead as revenge for an incident his brother was involved in, the warrant says. Details about the incident were not available.

Jackson, 4416 Ashland St., Baker, was booked into Parish Prison on one count each of attempted first-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon and aggravated criminal damage to property.

4 booked with DWI in EBR Parish Prison

Authorities arrested at least four people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, booking records show.

Those booked and the counts against them:

• Montrall Green, 19, 1350 Blount Road, first-offense DWI, failure to maintain control and driver’s license not on person.

• Harry Hurston, 54, 6518 Tower Drive, second-offense DWI and driver’s license suspended or revoked.

• Stephen Landreneau, 22, 5057 Amberlynn Drive, first-offense DWI, improper lane usage and stop sign violation.

• Billy Smith, 46, 315 Liberty Road, Picayune, Miss., first-offense DWI, failure to maintain control, driving with a suspended/revoked license, hit and run, and insurance required.
