A fire at Sherwood Middle Academic Magnet School forced all students and staff to evacuate the building Friday morning, but no one was hurt and students were soon all back in class, said East Baton Rouge Schools spokesman Gwynn Shamlin.

The fire started in a custodial area in the rear of the school at 9:17 a.m. and all students and staff quickly left the building.

Baton Rouge Fire Department spokesman Mark Miles said firefighters managed to contain the fire, which was electrical in origin, in the "custodian’s office" room where it started.

Shamlin said students were all back in class by 11 a.m. and the damage to the school was limited.
