Frerico Smith

A 23-year-old Baton Rouge man was arrested on two felony counts and one misdemeanor count Thursday after trying to conceal a gun from officers and threatening to shoot a woman in a hotel room.

Officers knocked on Frerico Smith’s door Thursday at the Crossland Hotel on Boardwalk Drive to find out information about drugs they found in a truck in the parking lot, according to a police report on the incident. A woman opened the door and said Smith was in the bathroom.

Officers ordered Smith to walk out of the bathroom and he complied, the report says. They detained him before the woman asked if she could speak to the officers privately, the report says, and she told them Smith was trying to get rid of a gun,and that it might be in the toilet or on him.

After finding nothing in the toilet, police searched Smith. A .22 caliber gun fell to the ground under his shorts as police were searching him, the report says.

The woman told officers that when police had earlier knocked on the door, Smith pointed the gun at her and told her he would shoot her if she opened it, the report states. She told police she waited until Smith went to the bathroom before letting the officers inside.

Smith, 3545 Yorkfield Drive, was arrested on counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, illegal carrying of a weapon and false imprisonment with a dangerous weapon. He was booked in Parish Prison.
