Gunfire crackled through the Old South Baton Rouge neighborhood again Thursday morning, just a day after separate shootings in the area left an 18-year-old dead and sent another man to the hospital with a wound to the neck.

Police don't believe anyone was hit but responded to reports of shots fired in the area in the 2000 block of Nebraska Street near the spot where Keondrae Ricks was found dead early Wednesday night, blocks from his home.

Three Baton Rouge public schools in the neighborhood — McKinley High School, Buchanan Elementary and Baton Rouge FLAIM Polk Campus — have also increased security in response to the incidents, said Adonica Pelichet Duggan, a school system spokeswoman.

Duggan said the schools also went into lockdown for about a half-hour on both Wednesday and Thursday in response to police requests.
