BR man booked in aggravated rape

A Baton Rouge man is accused of raping a woman at gun- and knife-point on the front porch of an abandoned home Saturday night and threatening to kill her if she tried to leave.

The woman went to the house at 1051 N. 49th St. willingly with Michael Oliver, 47, according to the affidavit of probable cause. But when Oliver asked to have sex with her, she refused. When she continued to resist and call out for help, he pulled out the weapons and raped her over a period of several hours, the affidavit says.

Oliver also threatened to kill her if she left the abandoned house, the affidavit says. But the victim was later able to get away and call for help.

Oliver later told police he did have sex with the woman but “he was merely ‘playing’ with her” regarding the threats, according to the affidavit.

Oliver, of 1043 N. 49th St., was booked Sunday into Parish Prison on a count of aggravated rape.

Acid found in dumpster fire near high school

Hazardous materials teams found hydrochloric acid and acetone containers during a small dumpster fire near Redemptorist High School just after 7:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the Baton Rouge Fire Department.

The fire’s cause was unclear, but the chemicals appeared to have been merely left in the dumpster at 4200 St. Katherine Ave. and not placed to start a fire, said Mark Miles, a Fire Department spokesman.

There were no injuries or property damage, Miles said, adding that the matter is still under investigation.
