East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s deputies Wednesday arrested a 24-year-old man accused of beating a man in the back of the head with a crowbar over a $300 debt.

Dominique Richardson kicked in the front door of an apartment at 1646 Jade Ave., to retrieve money he said was owed to him, according to an arrest report. When Richardson left, the tenant called his landlord to repair the damage to the door, deputies said in the report.

When the landlord arrived, Richardson confronted him and demanded he pay the debt on his tenant’s behalf, police said. As the landlord turned around, Richardson pummeled him in the back of the head with a crowbar and smashed out the windows of his truck.

Police arrived shortly after and heard yelling inside the tenant’s apartment, the report says. When investigators knocked, Richardson tried to run out the back door, police said.

Richardson, who police said was homeless, was booked into Parish Prison on counts of aggravated battery, aggravated assault, criminal damage to property, home invasion and marijuana possession. A judge set his bail at $11,000.
