Firefighters revived a puppy suffering from smoke inhalation after responding to a fire just before noon Saturday that did extensive damage to a home on Springhaven Drive, according to the St. George Fire Department.

Flames were shooting through the roof at the back of the house at 315 Springhaven Drive when firefighters arrived five minutes after being called to the scene, said Eldon Ledoux, a spokesman for the St. George Fire Department.

Firefighters brought the fire under control eight minutes after they arrived, but the fire caused extensive damage, Ledoux said in a news release.

No one was home whenever firefighters arrived, but when firefighters searched the house they found a puppy overcome by smoke. The dog was revived with no obvious negative side affects, the release says.

Investigators with the St. George Fire Department believe the fire originated in the kitchen, but the cause is still classified as undetermined as detectives continue to investigate, the release says.

The Baton Rouge Fire Department also responded to the scene.
