A Baton Rouge man was fatally shot Thursday morning in the 4400 block of Evangeline Street, Baton Rouge police said.
Michael Richard, 32, of 1724 Cedar Lake Dr., was found deceased inside a vehicle on Evangeline Street around 10:13 a.m., police spokesman Lt. L'Jean McKneely Jr. said in a release.
Police believe the victim was shot while sitting inside his vehicle, McKneely said. The vehicle was parked in the driveway of a home on the street.
McKneely said witnesses told investigators the victim was at the house to have service done on his vehicle. Witnesses in the area were brought in for questioning related to the case, he said.
There were several vehicles at the home, including a silver truck and a tan older model SUV. It's undetermined which vehicle belonged to Richard at this time, McKneely said.
Officers responded to the scene at about 10:25 a.m. and cordoned off much of the block between Lemonwood Drive and Beechwood Drive. Family members and neighbors crowded around the crime scene tape, anxiously waiting to learn the identity of the victim as investigators examined the scene.
