CLINTON — A 66-year-old Clinton man died in a four-vehicle crash that happened shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Saturday in East Feliciana Parish, State Police said.
James R. Felker was traveling eastbound on La. 10 in a 2000 GMC Sierra pickup when the crash occurred, State Police said in a news release.
State Police said Daniel W. Johnson, 41, of Marshall, Texas, was traveling westbound on La. 10 in a 2012 Mack tractor-trailer truck when he attempted to brake for slowing vehicles ahead of him but ended up in the eastbound lane, striking Felker's Sierra pickup head on.
The tractor-trailer then struck two vehicles that were ahead of him in the westbound lane that had slowed for a vehicle that was turning left, State Police said.
All of the people involved in the four-vehicle crash were wearing seatbelts. While Felker was killed, Jonson suffered only minor injuries and the drivers of the other two vehicles were uninjured, State Police said.
Impairment is not suspected to have been a factor in the crash, but a toxicology sample was taken from Jonson, the results of which are pending.
Jonson was placed under arrest and was to be booked into East Feliciana Parish jail on counts of negligent homicide and careless operation, State Police said.
