Police arrested a 27-year-old Baton Rouge man in the shooting and wounding of another man during an argument in the 12500 block of Cate Avenue on April 2, Baton Rouge police said.
Kevin Roy Johnson Jr., of 12586, shot the victim in the knee and bullets also struck his vehicle several times as the victim tried to leave after the two “had words,” a Baton Rouge police report says.
The shooting happened just down the street from Johnson’s Cate Avenue home at 9:30 a.m.
An errant bullet fired by Johnson also struck an occupied home on the street during the shooting, the report says, and several witnesses said they felt threatened as Johnson opened fire, fearing “that Johnson was going to shoot them as well.”
The victim, who survived the shooting, and witnesses identified Johnson from a photographic lineup, the report says.
Detectives obtained a warrant for Johnson on April 2. He was arrested and booked into Parish Prison Wednesday on counts of attempted second-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon and felon in possession of a firearm as well as two counts each of aggravated criminal damage to property and aggravated assault with a firearm.
Bail had not been set Wednesday evening.
