A 15-year-old, who was with Metro Councilman Chandler Loupe’s son Friday when he was shot during an alleged drug deal, was arrested that evening for trying to purchase marijuana, a police spokesman said Monday.

The teen, a 17-year-old and Loupe’s son, who is also 15, went to buy marijuana in the 1600 block of Mary Lou Drive sometime between 5:30 p.m. and 5:55 p.m., police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said.

During the drug deal, Loupe’s son was shot in the chest, McKneely said. The teen was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The 15-year-old arrested Friday was placed in the East Baton Rouge Parish Juvenile Detention Center on a count of attempted possession of marijuana, McKneely said. The 17-year-old was questioned and released.

None of the teens’ names were released.
