A Baton Rouge man who is accused of having sex with a 14-year-old girl was arrested early Saturday.
A woman who showed up at a Baton Rouge police station with her teenage daughter said she had just come from the River East Inn Motel on Highland Road, where she’d been told the girl was having sex with Lowell Craig, 33, according to a police report. When the mother knocked on the door of their room, Craig, who had his pants down, opened it, the report says. The girl was lying in the bed naked, the report says.
The girl told police she agreed to have sex with Craig, according to the police report, but the legal age of consent in Louisiana is 17.
Craig was contacted by phone and told to report to the police station, the report says. There, he was placed in handcuffs, but managed to maneuver out of them and run toward the door, police said.
Craig fought with an officer who tried to put him back in handcuffs, leaving bruises on his face and hand, the report says. Additional officers were eventually able to gain control of Craig and handcuff him, the report says.
Craig, 9201 Airline Highway, was booked into Parish Prison on counts of sexual battery, indecent behavior with a juvenile, contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, battery of a police officer, resisting a police officer and attempted simple escape.
He remains in jail on a $32,000 bond, according to online booking records.
