An electrical shortage caused a house fire Monday morning at a home at 6770 Spring Drive, according to a District 6 Fire Department release.

Firefighters arrived on scene at 11:15 a.m. to find a bedroom of the home on fire, the release says.

Firefighters got the fire under control at 11:30 a.m. The room was badly burned and the rest of the home had smoke and heat damage, the release says.

No one was home when the fire started, the release says.

1 booked with DWI in EBR Parish Prison

Authorities arrested at least one person suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish between 2:30 p.m. Sunday and 2:30 p.m. Monday, booking records show.

Tanzy Becnel, 18, 3804 Seven Ave., Metairie, was booked into Parish Prison on one count each of first-offense DWI, speeding, improper lane usage and improper turns.
