Three people were injured in an armed robbery on Jasper Avenue late Friday night, East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office spokesperson Casey Rayborn Hicks said.
The incident took place in the 1800 block of Jasper Avenue around 10:45 p.m. when EBRSO deputies responded to a report of shots fired.
An initial investigation revealed that seven men were standing in the parking lot of an apartment complex drinking beer before the shooting. They were then approached by three other men who they did not know. All three had their faces covered with bandanas and were armed with handguns, Hicks said.
The suspects pointed their weapons at the men, Hicks said, and demanded they hand over their personal property. One of the victims resisted and attempted to fight one of the assailants. In the ensuing altercation, one of the men with a bandana fired multiple rounds from his handgun and struck several people.
The three men fled on foot following the shooting. They stole one Motorola phone in the incident.
Hicks said one victim received a gunshot wound in the hand and another was shot in the ankle. A third man had a bullet graze his leg.
The investigation remains open.
