Baton Rouge police said a woman was shot to death while driving her car on Winbourne Avenue early Tuesday morning.
Andretta Selders, 38, of Baton Rouge, was shot around 5 a.m. in the 4000 block of Winbourne Avenue, police said in a news release. She died at the scene.
Two welders working on the football field at the future Istrouma High School said Selders crashed through a fence surrounding the field.
Investigators have not released a motive or named a suspect, but police spokesman Sgt. L’Jean McKneely said Tuesday afternoon that detectives were following up on leads.
This is the second fatal shooting on Winbourne Avenue in recent months. At the end of April, Baton Rouge rapper Lorenzo Dixon was shot while sitting in a car at an auto shop one block from where Tuesday's shooting happened. Dixon later died in a hospital.
One of the welders working on the Istrouma High football field said he has heard shots two other times while working on the site.
