A pistol whipping during a brawl outside a Baton Rouge area nightclub early Sunday morning left a woman hospitalized and a 24-year-old man and his 27-year-old sister in Parish Prison, according to an East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office report.
The incident started after a fight broke out in the parking lot of Club MVP on Greenwell Springs Road between Coshelia Conley, 27, and an unidentified woman, according to the report.
Witnesses told deputies that after the fight started, Conley’s brother, Darius Conley, 24, went to his car and pulled out a handgun from under the seat.
When a third woman tried to break up the fight, Darius Conley pistol-whipped her, striking her “three or four times in the forehead” with the handgun and leaving her with a laceration and a large contusion above her left eye and a possible fracture to her skull, the report said.
A second victim told deputies that when he tried to check on the woman who’d been pistol-whipped, Darius Conley pointed the gun at him and said, “Everyone get back,” the report said.
As bystanders struggled to take the gun from Conley, the weapon discharged at least once, sending the crowd scattering, a security guard at the club told deputies. Another witness told deputies that “a female grabbed the gun” before it went off, but no one was hit, the report said.
After being arrested, Darius Conley told deputies that his sister had been involved in the parking lot fight but that another woman had pulled out the gun, which he claimed went off while he was trying to wrestle it away from her, according to the report. He denied using the gun to hit the victim in the face.
Darius Conley, 12737 Warfield Ave., Baton Rouge, was booked into Parish Prison on one count each of aggravated battery, aggravated assault and felon in possession of a firearm.
Coshelia Conley, 429 East St., Denham Springs, also was arrested and booked into parish prison on one count of disturbing the peace. She denied being involved in a fight outside the club, deputies said in the report.
