A Monday night shooting left one man dead and another injured in Baker, Police Chief Carl Dunn says.

The East Baton Rouge Coroner's Office identified the dead man as 56-year-old Leon Washington.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 2000 block of West Azalea Avenue (map) around 9:45 p.m.

Upon arrival, Dunn says officers found Washington and a second man with gunshot wounds. They performed first aid until paramedics arrived, but Washington was pronounced dead at the scene. The second man was taken to a hospital and is now in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing.
