Baton Rouge Police are searching for a 21-year-old man accused of shooting another man to death on Alaska Street earlier this month.

Tyronn Collins shot Roderick Carolina, 34, in a Dec. 12 armed robbery, said Cpl. Don Coppola, a Baton Rouge Police spokesman.

Collins, who lives at 2556 Thomas H. Delpit Drive, also frequents a relative’s home at 195 W. Harding Street, Coppola said.

Apartment blaze on N. Foster doused quickly

A quick response by firefighters prevented a Monday morning apartment blaze off North Foster Drive from doing too much damage, the Baton Rouge Fire Department said.

Firefighters responded to the Crillion Apartments on North Foster between Florida Boulevard and Greenwell Springs Road just before 7 a.m. to find a fire in the laundry room of a third floor apartment, Mark Miles, a department spokesman, said in a news release.

The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately known.

Firefighters contained the blaze to the one apartment, Miles said, and the residence’s four inhabitants, including two children, escaped unharmed. Of the 20 apartments in the complex, only one other unit received water damage and three others sustained smoke damage.

Vintage car engine sparks garage fire

A vintage car’s engine sparked a garage fire on Hoo Shoo Too Road on Monday afternoon, St. George Fire Department reported.

Firefighters arrived at the Mallard Lake subdivision just after 4 p.m. to find heavy smoke and fire in the garage of the home, said Eldon Ledoux, a St. George Fire Department spokesman.

No one was injured, and the fire was contained to the garage, and under control within 15 minutes, Ledoux said. The car had been under repair when the fire started, Ledoux added.

Baton Rouge man booked in sexual battery on teen

Baton Rouge Police arrested a 55-year-old man accused of committing sexual battery of a 13-year-old girl on five occasions.

The girl told police that Rickey Washington came into her room while she was sleeping before committing the battery multiple times between May and November of this year, according to a police report.

The girl told her mother, but her mother threatened to beat her if she told police, according to the report. A cousin of the girl told police that Washington had bragged to her about the incidents.

Washington, who lives on North 17th Street in Baton Rouge, was booked Sunday into Parish Prison on counts of sexual battery.
