Southern University’s “Human Jukebox” marching band will perform for thousands in Atlanta early next year as part of the 13th annual Honda Battle of the Bands Invitational Showcase.

The university will receive a $20,000 grant from Honda to support music education programs, plus travel to and hotel accommodations in Atlanta, as one of eight bands participating in the Jan. 24 showcase.

“To be included among these great marching band is humbling. We hope that our performance will be one that our make our students and the Jaguar Nation proud,” Southern University director of bands Nathan Haymer said in a news release.

Southern University frequently has been lauded for having one of the nation’s best college marching bands. Last year, NCAA ranked the Human Jukebox No. 2 among all colleges, and HBCUDigest this year named it as the best among historically black colleges.

The other bands slated to perform hail from Alabama State, Bethune-Cookman, Howard University, Jackson State, North Carolina A&T, Talladega College and Tennessee State.
