Years ago I was trained that the key to problem solving was to identify the root cause. In the case of two current education hot button issues — vouchers and the breakaway Southeast district — I suggest the root cause is the inadequate quality of some East Baton Rouge Parish schools. Instead of fretting about loss of tax base, union power, teacher evaluation procedures etc., bringing school quality to acceptable levels would make the voucher and breakaway moot issues. After all, it is about the children, isn’t it?
