There is an epidemic in our country, a substance abuse that is the most prevalent of any.

The overuse of this substance causes shortened lives, physical impairments, disease, increased accidents, shortness of breath, brain damage, damage to legs and backs, increased birth defects and many other problems.

It is a very expensive habit. Yet when one author tried to address the problem in a children’s book, an AP news article reported that “outrage explodes” over the book, “Maggie Goes on a Diet.”

Yes, the problem is overeating. Instead of getting riled about someone bringing the problem to the attention of children, we should be helping stop the abuse.
