Regarding the recent letter, “Guardrails raise questions,” the new rails proposed for the Causeway were specifically designed to keep vehicles on the bridge and to also keep them in the same lane — prevent redirection into adjacent travel lane. The rails were developed by some of best traffic engineers in America, passed multiple crash tests, and actually exceed national criteria. The new rails and safety bay emergency stopping areas will be the most significant safety improvements for the Causeway since the second bridge was built in 1969. In short, they will save lives.
