We congratulate The Reveille, LSU’s student newspaper, on being named the nation’s best daily student newspaper by the Society of Professional Journalists.

We’re delighted, but not surprised, that The Reveille received this honor. The student paper at LSU has been vigorous in its coverage of campus life, and it has been an especially strong defender of public transparency.

Reveille editor Andrea Gallo recently sued the LSU Board of Supervisors in an effort to force the board to release the names of 35 candidates for the LSU System presidency. District Judge Tim Kelley ruled against Gallo.

The Advocate and The Times-Picayune have filed a similar suit seeking release of the candidates’ names.

We congratulate The Reveille on its honor. The award gives us the hope that the next generation of American journalism is in good hands.
