To the victor goes the spoils. It certainly worked out well for Lutcher.

The Bulldogs captured their first baseball title in nine years. Freshman star Marshall Louque and coach Ryan Jensen have swept the top honors on the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Class 3A All-State team.

“We were disappointed last year when the team came out,” Jensen said. “This goes to show that when you win it all, the other individual stuff comes with it.

"But I think the thing I was remember the most is how this team bought into what we asked them to do. It was special."

Louque, part of the Louisiana squad that won the Little League World Series in 2019, was voted the Outstanding Player in 3A after compiling a 7-2 record and a 0.27 earned run average as the Bulldogs’ top starting pitcher. He also hit .475 with 19 doubles, four triples, six home runs and a 52 RBIs.

Jensen garnered Coach of the Year honors after leading Lutcher to a 33-9 record. Returning all-state player Kamryn Broussard of Iowa and second-year head coach Justin Kees of champion Buckeye lead the 3A softball squad. Both teams were selected by a panel of sportswriters from across the state.

Sophomore outfielder Brock Louque (.364, 10 dounles, three triples, two home runs, 36 RBIs) and versatile senior Noah Detillier (5-2, .342, seven home runs, 36 RBIs) are the other Lutcher players on the squad.

Other area players included University High pitcher Camden Sunstrom (9-1), West Feliciana infielder Joe Cochran (.392, 14 doubles, two home runs, 32 RBIs) and Parkview Baptist outfielder Caleb Stelly (.459, 12 doubles, 12 home runs, 44 RBIs).

Broussard, a junior outfielder, led Iowa by batting .470 with 13 doubles, 15 home runs, 56 RBIs and 53 runs. Kees led Buckeye to a 28-8 record and its first softball title in nine years.

Lutcher pitcher Allie Bland (26-4, 222 strikeouts) is among seven area softball players on the 3A squad. Catcher Katie Salling of Parkview Baptist (.537, 11 doubles, 11 home runs, 37 RBIs), Brusly infielder Britt Bourgoyne (.562, 30 RBIs, 55 runs scored) and outfielder Hailey Peterson of Haynes Academy (.575, six home runs, 33 RBIs) were position selections.

Utility players Chakirrious Parker of St. James (.433, 10 home runs, 43 RBIs), Lutcher’s Maria Detillier (.568, 18 home runs) and Cheyenne Jenkins of Hannan (.467, 33 runs scored, 19 RBIs) helped complete the team.
