Dressed for the 9

Madison Prep seeks its ninth straight victory, dating to the 2020 season. A year ago, MPA forfeited a Week 1 game and lost to University High before rolling off seven straight wins en route to the Class 3A title. An opening win over St. Thomas More was win No. 8.

Both sides now

Capitol and McKinley renew one of Baton Rouge’s oldest rivalries for the first time in two years. The Lions seek a third consecutive win. Capitol also leads the series 37-32-3. First-year McKinley coach Malcolm Reed is the son of ex-Capitol QB Frederic Douglass Reed.

Dutchtown’s triple play

East Ascension hosts Scotlandville Thursday night for the first of three varsity games this week at Dutchtown’s new artificial turf stadium field. The Griffins host Shreveport’s Evangel on Friday night. Then on Saturday, St. Amant hosts to Walker at DHS’ Griffin Stadium.

Closing the distance

Ascension Christian was scheduled to host New Orleans-based Ben Franklin this week prior to Hurricane Ida. Instead, the Class 1A Lions will play Centerville at Plaquemine High’s Canova Stadium. The location reduces the amount of travel for St. Mary Parish-based Centerville.
