LSU’s sophomore right offensive tackle talks baseball and gives us the lowdown on who’s the funniest lineman.

Q: There are plenty of characters on this LSU offensive line. Who’s the funniest of the group?

A: That would have to be Evan Washington, hands down. He’s a comedian. It doesn’t matter who you are, he’s going to get on you. We all have nicknames for each other.

Q: What’s your nickname?

A: They call me ‘Bubbles.’ I believe it was from practice from freshman year, I was tired, and I was just having bubbles coming out of my nose.

Q: This LSU offensive line seems to have a lot of interchangeable parts. How important is versatility on a line like this one?

A: On our line, we move around a lot. You could probably be playing tackle one play, then you might need to be at guard or at left tackle another play. It’s good to be very mobile on this O-line.

Q: Is it true you played baseball in high school?

A: I used to play first and pitcher. I weighed about 260 pounds (Hawkins is now listed at 309). I was great defensively, but I would have rather just pitched.

Q: You have two teammates who still play baseball for the Tigers. What’s the deal with the baseball talent on this football team?

A: It’s pretty cool. They’re really falling into place, and you can’t tell they’re baseball players. They act just like us. We’re really all a bunch of big kids.
