LSU redshirt sophomore receiver John Diarse posted a message on his Instagram on Thursday indicating that he’ll transfer from the program, and two sources confirmed that he had planned to transfer earlier this season.
“No matter what happens from this point forward I will always be part of the Tiger family and be able to say I played for the LSU Tigers,” he wrote in the post.
An LSU spokesman did not immediately return a message for comment.
Diarse, once a consensus four star prospect out of Neville High, caught 13 passes for 137 yards this season. He served mostly as a reserve behind starters Travin Dural and Malachi Dupre. He was the Tigers’ No. 3 receiver and had two of his best games of his career in Houston.
Diarse caught four passes for a season-high 45 yards in the Texas Bowl on Tuesday night. Diarse had two catches for 48 yards and a game-changing touchdown in a win over Wisconsin last season in Houston.
Diarse’s signing day potential never materialized for the run-heavy Tigers. His career high in yards came in the Music City Bowl against Notre Dame last season – 76 yards. He never had more than four catches in any game of his career.
Diarse, who graduated this past December, enrolled early at LSU in January of 2013, winning the Newcomer Most Improved Award before a nagging injury he suffered in preseason camp resulted in a redshirt season as a rookie.
LSU is expected to return top two receivers Dural, Dupre and highly touted freshman Tyron Johnson.
