LSU arrived at its team hotel, the Westin Harbour Island, Wednesday afternoon in Tampa, Fla., with injured starting quarterback Zach Mettenberger in tow.
Mettenberger, who suffered a torn ACL in the regular season finale against Arkansas, was expected to make the trip, but it wasn’t certain. A spokesman said he did join the team for the 1 hour, 15-minute flight from Baton Rouge. He is scheduled to have surgery next week.
The team arrived in three buses at 12:10 p.m. ahead of its game against Iowa in the Outback Bowl on Jan. 1. Players, in suits, unloaded and filed into the pristine hotel, which sits along the bank of the Hillsborough Bay, just a three-minute drive from downtown Tampa.
