LSU full back/tight end John David Moore (18) celebrates after scoring a touchdown against Texas A&M.

JD Moore's 4.0 grade point average in architecture is being recognized nationally.

Moore, LSU's senior fullback-turned-hybrid F-back, was named as a academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. He becomes the school's first academic All-American since Rudy Niswanger in 2005.

Moore, a Ruston native and a key cog in LSU's rushing attack the past three seasons, claims the team's fourth All-American honor this year. He joins linebacker Devin White and cornerbacks Donte Jackson and Greedy Williams.

Moore is on pace to become the first LSU football player to graduate with a degree in architecture in more than 25 years.

Originally a walk-on, Moore played tight end at Ruston High before moving to the fullback position at LSU. He began playing a hybrid tight end/F-back role this year in offensive coordinator Matt Canada's scheme.

The team bestowed on Moore the illustrious No. 18 jersey before this year, a tradition to recognize a team leader and selfless player. He shared the honor of donning 18 with defensive end Christian LaCouture.
