Rain interrupted LSU’s best chance at cracking Florida ace Logan Shore on Thursday, stopping play in the first game of the series in the third inning of a scoreless contest at Alex Box Stadium.
Play was suspended as Cole Freeman stood on second and Antoine Duplantis, LSU’s leadoff hitter, had a full count at the plate with one out. Freeman reached on an infield single that ran up second baseman Deacon Liput’s arm — LSU’s first baserunner in scoring position with less than two outs.
Freeman’s hit was only the second the Tigers mustered off Shore. His counterpart, Tigers pitcher Alex Lange, has also issued just two hits.
Lange allowed an infield single to lead off the game and a ringing, two-out double to Nelson Maldonado in the second. The Gators put baserunners aboard in all three innings against Lange, but the LSU righty stranded them all.
After watching Lange toss his third scoreless frame of the night, LSU coach Paul Mainieri huddled around an iPad with the LSU groundskeeper as the bottom of the third began. Play was halted shortly thereafter.
