LSU’s Danielle Ballard named second team AP All-SEC _lowres

LSU junior guard Danielle Ballard picked up All-Southeastern Conference second-team honors as announced by the Associated Press on Wednesday.

Ballard amassed a team-leading 14.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.9 steals and 2.8 assists per game. She was the only player to rank among the SEC’s top 10 in four of the five major statistical categories.

Ballard scored double figures in 13 of her last 14 games, highlighted by four 20-plus point performances. Most recently, she registered 22 points and 10 rebounds to claim her fifth double-double of the season against No. 18 Texas A&M in LSU’s quarterfinal victory at the SEC tournament.

Ballard has already surpassed 500 career rebounds and heads into NCAA tournament 40 points away of reaching 1,000 career points. She would become the 19th player in program history to eclipse 1,000 points and 500 rebounds.

LSU faces No. 25 South Florida during the opening round of the 2015 NCAA tournament at 5:30 p.m. Saturday the the USF Sun Dome in Tampa, Florida. The game will be televised by ESPN2.
