Oregon fired coach Mark Helfrich on Tuesday night after a disappointing 4-8 season, and one of the names being discussed as his replacement will be of particular interest to LSU fans.

On Wednesday, the website FootballScoop, citing unnamed sources, said Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin has been discussed as an Oregon candidate.

Kiffin has been widely reported to be LSU coach Ed Orgeron's No. 1 target for the Tigers' new offensive coordinator. A large part of Orgeron's pitch to win the job was his promise to bring in a dynamic coordinator to bring the spread offense to LSU.

FootballScoop said Kiffin's reputation as a smart offensive innovator also appeals to Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens, who is leading the head coach search.
