LSU point guard Tremont Waters and coach Will Wade talk strategy during a game against Vanderbilt, Feb. 20, 2018 in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

Home games against Memphis and Louisiana Tech, a showdown in the desert and a possible Thanksgiving week tournament date with national champion Villanova highlight the LSU men’s basketball 2018-19 nonconference schedule, the school released Tuesday.

“We are very happy to have completed our nonconference schedule for the 2018-19 season,” second-year LSU coach Will Wade said in a university news release. “With the records and performance last year of the teams we will face this season, we are confident that this schedule will allow us the opportunity to mold and shape our team prior to the start of the Southeastern Conference schedule.”

The Tigers open with four-game home stand in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, the first three against teams that won 20 or more games this past season. LSU’s season opener is Nov. 6 against Southland Conference champion Southeastern Louisiana (22 wins, NIT appearance), part of a doubleheader that includes an LSU women’s game that night. SLU is followed Nov. 9 by Southern Conference champion UNC Greensboro (27 wins, NCAA tournament) and Memphis (21 wins) on Nov. 13.

LSU will host Louisiana Tech on Nov. 16, the night before the Tigers final home football game against Rice.

LSU then heads to Florida for three games in the AdvoCare Invitational, Nov. 22-25 at the HP Field House at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex at Walt Disney World. The field includes NCAA champion Villanova, Oklahoma State, Memphis, UAB, Canisius, Charleston and Florida State, which reached the NCAA regional finals. The Tigers return home Dec. 1 to face SWAC regular-season champion Grambling.

Following a traditional break for fall semester exams, LSU will host Incarnate Word on Dec 9. The Tigers then embark on a string of three straight contests against teams that won at least 23 games in 2017-18, starting with a game Dec. 12 at Houston. LSU beat the Cougars in the PMAC this past season 80-77 in a thriller that ended with a blocked 3-pointer by Tremont Waters at the buzzer, though UH went on to win 27 games and reach the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Following that trip, the Tigers head to Las Vegas for the 2018 MGM Grand Showcase against St. Mary’s (California) at T-Mobile Arena, home of the NHL’s Las Vegas Golden Knights. St. Mary’s won 30 games last season and reached the NIT quarterfinals before being eliminated by Utah, which beat LSU the previous game.

LSU then concludes its December schedule with a Dec. 21 game in the PMAC against 23-game winner Furman and a Dec. 28 game with UL-Monroe.

Though dates have not been announced, LSU’s SEC home games will be against Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Texas A&M, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee and Vanderbilt. The Tigers will play SEC road games at Alabama, Arkansas Texas A&M, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri, Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

Game times and broadcast networks will be announced at a later date, while LSU season ticket renewals are due by the end of June. The schedule is subject to the approval of the LSU Board of Supervisors.
