Big Cat’s back.

LSU’s physical, collision drill returned for the fifth practice of spring drills, under clear and warm conditions on the Charles McClendon practice fields. Big Cat pits two players in the middle of a tight ring of players and coaches – each guy trying to push the other back.

Big Cat video is below, along with other news.

  • Absent: LSU running back Leonard Fournette is suffering from what a source says is a “minor soft tissue” injury and was held out of practice Tuesday. Defensive back Dwayne Thomas was the only other new player who missed drills.
  • Team drill: During a team drill late in the media viewing window, Danny Etling was quarterbacking. Here’s the rest of the personnel for the offense, aside from the backfield (we couldn’t see who was back there):

WR D.J. Chark
WR Malachi Dupre
SLOT Jazz Ferguson
LT Maea Teuhema
LG Will Clapp
C Andy Dodd
RG Josh Boutte
RT Toby Weathersby

  • Returning: LSU cornerback Donte Jackson returned to practice after missing Saturday’s drills and only watching practice on Thursday. He was suffering from a hamstring injury, defensive backs coach Corey Raymond said Monday.
  • Injury report: Running back Darrel Williams donned a gold non-contact jersey during Tuesday’s drills. His injury is uncertain. Offensive lineman Garrett Brumfield missed his third straight practice. He’s suffering from an ankle injury and only watched drills Saturday in a walking boot. LB Kendell Beckwith, as expected, missed his second straight practice after twisting his knee during Thursday’s practice. He said he expects to return to practice after spring break in two weeks.

  • Recruits: Madison Prep lineman Bryan Jones attended practice on Tuesday, watching from the sideline and so did the state’s top-ranked player, Amite receiver Devonta Smith.
  • Malone at guard: K.J. Malone was working with the guards on Tuesday, as he returned to practice after suffering an off-the-field injury last week. But he did not join what appears to be LSU’s top four tackles during at least one drill. Toby Weathersby and Maea Teuhema were the No. 1 tackles, and George Brown Jr. and Chidi Okeke were working as the No. 2 tackles.
