The Cardinals won nine of their first 10 games, with the only loss coming at Clemson. They were on the bubble, at No. 5, of securing a CFP bid before dropping their last two games, at Houston and against Kentucky.

On Louisville’s offense

QB Lamar Jackson, a dual-threat standout, is the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy next weekend. He leads an offense that ranks No. 1 in the nation in points per game (45.3).

On Louisville’s defense 

Louisville defensive coordinator Todd Grantham has earned his money ($1.3 million last year, according to USA Today) with the Cardinals. They're 11th in total defense this year (316 yards per game) and 33rd in scoring defense (23.3 points per game).

Petrino was seen as a favorite to replace Nick Saban as LSU's coach in 2005. He interviewed twice with search committee members before they selected Les Miles instead.
