Lane Kiffin

Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin questions an official's call during a 2014 game with Florida.

Lane Kiffin always has jokes, it seems.

The current Florida Atlantic coach and former Alabama offensive coordinator under coach Nick Saban stopped by 104.5 ESPN FM's "Off the Bench" show Thursday morning and chatted a bit about his dealings with LSU's Ed Orgeron.

Orgeron and Kiffin go back to their days together at Southern California and Tennessee. Kiffin said FAU's defensive staff traveled to Baton Rouge last off-season to learn a bit from LSU and Dave Aranda. On the flip side, Matt Canada and LSU's offensive staff went to Boca Raton, Fla., to exchange ideas with FAU's staff.

"Obviously I didn't help very much," Kiffin joked, alluding to the disappointing 2017 season LSU had on offense, ending with Canada and LSU going their separate ways after just one season.

"I just watched that (Citrus Bowl) game yesterday," Kiffin said. "Watching LSU's offense ... I left Orgeron a message, 'Hey, did you have a bonus in the contract for your offensive coordinator, for every shift he got extra money?'"

Before hiring Canada, Orgeron angled to bring Kiffin on as LSU's offensive coordinator, but Kiffin eventually became FAU's head coach.
