LSU basketball coach Johnny Jones will return as the Tigers’ head coach next season, Athletic Director Joe Alleva told Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday.
“Go ahead and put it out there,” Alleva told Yahoo’s Pat Forde.

Question surrounding Jones’ job security became frequent fodder on talk radio, message boards as social media as LSU’s season went south. Perhaps the criticism of Jones reached a fever pitch after the Tigers laid an egg in the Southeastern Conference tournament semifinals – a 71-38 loss to Texas A&M.
But even after that defeat, The Advocate’s Scott Rabalais reported that all signs pointed to Jones returning next season.
In his season-ending news conference, Jones spoke on a vast array of topics 48 hours after he and his staff elected to not play in a third straight postseason tournament.
“We’re a little disappointed we’re here … it was obviously not our plan,” Jones said, noting he would rather be at an NCAA tournament site preparing for a first-round game.
